Is Builder Gel Better Than Acrylic?
10 Jul 2023
BIAB (Builder in A Bottle) gel and acrylic are two different types of nail enhancements. The choice between BIAB gel and acrylic ultimately depends on your personal preferences, However at The Venue Beauty Salon we tend to lean towards BIAB. Let's explore both options:
BIAB Builder Gel:
- Strength and durability: BIAB gel is known for its strength and durability. It offers a thick, sturdy layer that helps protect natural nails and provides added strength. It is particularly beneficial for those with weak or brittle nails.
- Natural look: BIAB gel is typically more flexible and has a more natural look compared to acrylic. It offers a softer, more lightweight feel on the nails.
- Application: BIAB gel is usually applied as a thicker gel layer, often in multiple coats, and is cured under a UV or LED lamp. It can be sculpted or used with tips to extend the nail length.
- Maintenance: BIAB gel requires infills or maintenance appointments every few weeks, similar to acrylic nails. You may need to file and shape the gel, followed by a fresh layer of gel to maintain the desired look.
Acrylic Nails:
- Acrylic nails have been a popular choice for many years due to their hard-wearing ability.
- Durability: Acrylic nails are generally known for their durability and can withstand everyday wear and tear.
- Application: Acrylic nails are created by combining a liquid monomer with a powder polymer, creating a hard substance that is applied and shaped over the natural nails or nail tips. They are air-dried and do not require curing under a lamp.
- Maintenance: Acrylic nails also require infills or maintenance appointments as the natural nails grow. They need to be filed and reshaped during these visits.
Ultimately, the "better" option depends on your preferences. However, we at the Venue Beauty Salon feel that BIAB is a much softer and more natural alternative giving length and strength without damaging your natural nails.
BIAB doesn’t require half as much filing like acrylic and it is very self-levelling allowing for less filing and overall, a speedier service. Builder also has more flexibility being a gel, therefore applying less strain on the nail if it bends.
It is best to consult with a professional nail technician who can assess your nails and provide personalised advice based on your needs.
